Our Vision
Lives transformed by regenerative medicine
Our Mandate
Accelerate regenerative medicine research for the benefit of all
The Stem Cell Network (SCN) is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that unites researchers, clinicians, industry leaders, and health champions dedicated to transforming lives through regenerative medicine. As Canada’s only national organization with a specific focus on this field, SCN is uniquely positioned to drive progress in the fight against disease and power Canada’s economy through company creation and the development of future leaders.
Powered by a pan-Canadian community of multidisciplinary experts and next-generation talent, the Stem Cell Network (SCN) focuses exclusively on stem cell and regenerative medicine (RM) research.
SCN’s new Strategic Plan, Accelerate 2025-2029, aims to not only ‘accelerate’ stem cell and RM research, but to cultivate a vibrant research community, driven by exceptional talent, unwavering excellence, and a shared passion for transformative scientific advances.

The members of Canada’s Stem Cell Network are driven by a passion to save lives and improve health for all people. By harnessing regenerative medicine and stem cell science, we aim to not only alleviate disease and illness but contribute to Canada’s economy, fostering innovation and creating jobs.
For nearly 25 years, SCN has built a trusted, collaborative network that aligns researchers, clinicians and bio-entrepreneurs across Canada and globally. Through a small but dedicated staff team and the support of expert volunteers, SCN effectively delivers research programs, mentors emerging talent, accelerates the development of cutting-edge therapies, and supports the growth of biotech companies across Canada.
Just 60 years ago, stem cells were first discovered by Canadian scientists. Today, SCN and its members are global leaders in translating this groundbreaking science into real-world applications in the field of regenerative medicine. SCN-supported research has driven advancements in treating blood cancers, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, muscular dystrophy, cardiovascular disease, wound healing, and more.
Since its inception, SCN has invested over $162 million in Canadian regenerative medicine research, leveraging an additional $176 million from partners. This funding has positioned Canada as a global leader in regenerative medicine, fostering world-class expertise, spinning out innovative biotech companies, and pioneering life-changing clinical trials.
