Dr. Anthony Flamier
September 28, 2026 (Ottawa/Vancouver) – The Stem Cell Network (SCN) and the Rare Diseases: Models and Mechanisms Network (RDMM) are pleased to announce Dr. Anthony Flamier as the latest recipient of the SCN-RDMM Catalyst Grant.
The SCN-RDMM partnership supports leading stem cell and organoid researchers with expertise in genes, pathways, or cellular systems in studying new or understudied genes associated with rare diseases.
Dr. Flamier is an Assistant Research Professor in Neurosciences at Université de Montréal and a Principal Investigator at the Centre de recherche Azrieli du CHU Sainte-Justine. He will lead the project “Human iPSC-derived neuronal models of ATP6V0C-related developmental and epileptic encephalopathy for electrophysiological phenotyping and anti-seizure drug testing.”
ATP6V0C-related disease is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by early-onset epilepsy, developmental delay/intellectual disability, and variable brain and cardiac abnormalities. Dr. Flamier and his team will create human stem cell-based models carrying patient-specific genetic changes to the ATP6V0C gene to study how these changes affect brain cells, and test whether existing anti-seizure medications can correct abnormal activity. The goal is to better understand how ATP6V0C changes cause epilepsy and other neurological problems and identify treatments that may work best for individual patients.
Earlier this year, Dr. Flamier was named among SCN’s 25 for 25 Silver Anniversary awardees, in the Rising Star category.
