25 Years of Impact: National Excellence, Global Influence, Real-World Impact
In the field of regenerative medicine, Canada is viewed as a global leader — a science powerhouse.
For a quarter century, SCN has played a distinct, nationally unifying role: supporting world-class regenerative medicine (RM) research, advancing clinical translation, training the next generation of talent, and strengthening Canada’s position as a global leader in the field.
Created in 2001, with support from the Government of Canada, the Network has funded over 280 research projects and 30 clinical trials, cumulatively driven by experts from 350 research groups across Canada. Since its inception, over 28 biotech companies have been catalyzed or enhanced and more than 7,900 highly qualified personnel have been trained.
The evidence from recent evaluations, including an international survey, bibliometric analysis, and training assessment, all aligns: the Stem Cell Network model remains impactful and essential, generating measurable scientific, economic, and societal benefits domestically and internationally.
