Remembering Dr. Connie Eaves

March 7, 2024

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we remember Dr. Connie Eaves, a pioneer in stem cell and cancer research, and a long-time member and champion of Canada’s Stem Cell Network.

As a founding scientist of the Stem Cell Network, Dr. Eaves contributed greatly to the Network through her research, and training and mentoring the next generation of stem cell and regenerative medicine researchers.

Spanning five decades, Dr. Eaves’ seminal work advanced treatments for leukemia and breast cancers, and her groundbreaking research methodologies have become gold standards with significant applications worldwide. Throughout her career Dr. Eaves demonstrated exceptional national and international leadership and trained more than 100 scientists globally.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Eaves was the recipient of accolades of the highest honour, including appointment to the Order of Canada, election to the Royal Society (London, UK), induction into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, the Till & McCulloch Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Canada Gairdner Wightman Award, which recognizes scientists who make transformative contributions to human health research.

Dr. Eaves was a true trailblazer, and Canada was incredibly fortunate to have benefitted from her scientific contributions and leadership.

At SCN, we are forever indebted to Dr. Eaves for the steadfast support she has shown to the community, the field, and trainees over her distinguished career. Our deepest condolences go out to Dr. Allen Eaves, her family, colleagues, and all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever celebrated.
