Summer by Design

Stem Cell Network is excited to announce a limited number of accommodation support awards to attend Summer by Design, an intensive program for post-graduate (Ph.D.) students and post-doctoral fellows on translating and commercializing regenerative medicine.

Summer by Design is hosted by Medicine by Design, CCRM‘s academic research division, in partnership with the Stem Cell Network and the CCRM Foundation.

This eight-day program will feature expert-led, interactive sessions including lectures, group work and case studies. Participants will:

  • Learn from experts across various aspects of the technology translation continuum and be introduced to important topics including:
    • Conducting technology assessments (market opportunity, competitive landscaping)
    • Product conceptualization
    • Pivotal experiments
    • Technology strategy and intellectual property (IP)
    • Scale-up and biomanufacturing
    • Regulatory affairs
    • Marketing
    • Strategic communications and pitching including one-on-one coaching to develop presentation and pitch skills.
  • Explore Toronto’s dynamic life sciences hub by meeting with clinical and industry leaders in the field of regenerative medicine
  • Meet and collaborate with other Summer by Design participants, a diverse group of Canadian and international peers

Details of the SCN Award and Application Procedure:
The SCN award provides a limited financial supplement for eligible trainees to attend the Summer by Design workshop. The SCN award will cover the cost of accommodation only for successful applicants. Accommodation will be booked by the course organizers and paid directly by Stem Cell Network. Flights, meals, and other related costs are the responsibility of the applicant or their Principal Investigator.

Eligibility

Applications for the limited number of SCN accommodation support awards to attend the Summer by Design course will be accepted from Ph.D. candidates and post-doctoral fellows from a Canadian institution who are working in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine.

Application Procedure:

  • Applicants must complete the online application form on the Summer by Design website in advance of the deadline and ensure that they mark their preference to be considered for a SCN travel support award in the Travel Support section of the form.
  • Only applicants who have completed the application process described on the Summer by Design website and received an offer of a placement in the workshop will be considered for SCN travel support.

SCN will review all applications requesting SCN travel support, and applicants will be informed of the competition outcome in Spring 2026

Reporting and Communication Requirements

By accepting a SCN award, the recipient agrees to complete a survey describing the value of the training and networking opportunities made available through the award. This information will be used at SCN’s discretion on its website, newsletters and for the purpose of reporting to its funding agency. By accepting the SCN award attendees also agree to have their pictures taken during the course, which may be used in the reporting tools mentioned above.
