Health Science Industry Training

SCN is pleased to partner with OBIO® to offer the Health Science Industry Training course, delivered through OBIO’s popular Health to Business Bridge Program. This 27-hour virtual course will empower participants with the skills and knowledge to commercialize a therapeutic product or work in the health science industry.

Program highlights:

  • Comprehensive training to build a solid foundation in the health science industry for commercialization of biotechnology products
  • With a focus on health science, training modules are taught by industry experts and are intended to be hands-on and interactive including group case study discussions and workshops to practice skills and prepare trainees for real-world job expectations
  • Training is delivered virtually over 9 weeks via Zoom, scheduled once a week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET, with one 3-hour module covered per week
  • Participants will receive access to module slide decks and video recordings for each session

Training modules include: 

  • Innovation and commercialization
  • Project management
  • IP and licencing
  • Market intelligence
  • QMS & GMP
  • Biomanufacturing
  • Finance, partnerships and contracts
  • Professional skills and business communications

Learning outcomes will be measured via assessments for each module; successful fulfilment of these assessments is required to receive a certificate of completion. Training participants will have access to the OBIO Job Board and Talent Network™, which features listings from health science companies across Canada that are hiring. The OBIO Job Board and Talent Network supports health science companies with job posting and candidate recruitment, enhancing the capacity of employers to address challenges in growing their workforce with industry-ready talent.

Who should apply?

Committed and driven graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research/scientific associates who are:

  • Working in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine
  • Looking to gain skills and knowledge to commercialize a therapeutic product or work in the health science industry
  • Interested to learn which careers are available in the health science industry

SCN is pleased to offer a Certificate of Completion for this event.

To be eligible to receive a certificate, participants must:

  • Attend the entire workshop; and
  • Complete the post-event survey.

Please note: The Certification of Completion is a document demonstrating your attendance at a training event. It is not a credential, as it is not issued based on proof of learning or knowledge attainment.

How to Apply

  • Complete the application form here by 11:59 p.m. (sender’s time), May 16, 2024.
  • SCN Management and/or the SCN Training & Education Committee will review all complete applications, and applicants will be informed of the competition outcome by late May. Notification of acceptance for successful applicants will include a registration link for joining the online workshop sessions.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a trainee highly qualified personnel (HQP) (i.e., a graduate student, post-doc, research associate and/or technician currently working on a research project in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine in a Canadian lab or a researcher in industry.)
  • Non-academic applicants are welcome to apply. A $700 registration fee will apply to all non-academic applicants.
  • If you’re unsure whether you are a trainee/HQP, please email trainingSCN@stemcellnetwork.ca for confirmation.

Conditions

  • Note that participants in this course are required to use their own laptop computers, with headset for audio and webcam for video interaction.
  • Spaces are limited for this training opportunity. SCN will cover the registration costs for trainees/HQP (paid directly to the organizers) of this workshop for applicants who attend all sessions and complete all elements of the online content within the designated period. For applicants who fail to attend all sessions or complete the course content, a fee of $700 will be charged to their supervisor to cover the costs associated with delivering this training opportunity.
  • By accepting a place on this program, the recipient agrees to complete a survey describing the value of the training and networking opportunities made available through the award. This information will be used at SCN’s discretion on its website, newsletters and for the purpose of reporting to their funding agencies. By registering for this workshop attendees also accept to have their pictures taken during the program and used in materials as described above.
